Gun Control?

I am happy to see that I am not the only one to point out, that if concealed carry holders were allowed to carry on college campuses, then the Virginia Tech shooting may have had a better ending.

Dudley Brown is the executive director of Rocky Mountain Gun Owners (this is a site that everyone who supports the right to bear arms should visit). He is quoted in the Daily Camera about the effects of not allowing people with a Concealed Carry Permit(CCW) to carry on campus. I would recommend reading the article.

Groups like the Brady Campaign, use Virginia Tech as an example why America needs tougher gun laws. Here is an excerpt from a press release by the Brady Campaign:

"This organization has a long history of expertise on the Brady Law and on the regulations administering the related Federal laws that determine which individuals are prohibited purchasers. We believe there is clear evidence that since a Virginia judicial officer found that Cho Seung-Hui presented 'an imminent danger to himself as a result of mental illness' that he fell within the category of 'adjudicated as a mental incompetent' used in the Federal Gun Control Act of 1968, and therefore should have failed his background checks.
The complete press release can be found here.

I think that I may be in agreement with the Brady Campaign for once. The laws that are already on the books should have stopped Cho from purchasing a handgun. So there was a lack of enforcement of the current laws. There is absolutely no reason why more restrictive gun laws should be passed because of this occurrence. What would have been useful in this case, would have been the enforcement of current laws. So let's all take a moment and remember that this was an instance of the laws not being enforced; not a need for new laws!

The picture seen at the begining of this post was made by Oleg Volk. If you get the chance you should take a glance at his gallery. Mr. Volk has some works that really make a statement.
Also make sure to stop by his store and look at some of the t-shirts for sale. I can't help it. I feel the need to share a couple of other works from Mr. Volk.

What does all of this do to the best minds among the students? Most of them endure their college years with the teeth-clenched determination of serving out a jail sentence. The psychological scars they acquire in the process are incalculable. But they struggle as best they can to preserve their capacity to think, sensing dimly that the essence of the torture is an assault on their mind. And what they feel toward their school ranges from mistrust to resentment to contempt to hatred – intertwined with a sense of exhaustion and excruciating boredom.
